Frank Lampard thinks £35k-a-week Leeds ace boasts some ‘great’ abilities

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been praised by Frank Lampard, who believes the Whites ace “should be proud” of how his career has progressed.

The 27-year-old has been in inspired form for Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites this season, registering seven goals and three assists from 10 Premier League appearances.

Bamford spent a sizeable amount of his senior career on the books at Chelsea, joining from Nottingham Forest in 2012, but didn’t get any senior game time with the Blues.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, the Englishman had loan spells at six different teams before making the permanent switch to Middlesbrough in 2017.

A year later, Bamford joined Leeds, and the rest is history, the forward now preparing to lock horns against his former club in the Premier League on Saturday night.

“I remember him well,” Chelsea boss Lampard told Sky Sports. “He was a young player when he arrived at the club. Clearly he had great finishing abilities and an eye for goal.

“Obviously it didn’t quite work out for him – that’s probably more due to the competition he faced during that period up front for us.

“I think he should be proud of the way his career has gone; to make different moves and come back and be one of the leading scorers in the Premier League, in a very good Leeds team.”

After joining Leeds in 2018 for a reported £7million rising to £10million, Bamford split the fanbase prior to the start of the 2020-21 season.

Some praised his work-rate and commitment in terms of benefiting the whole team, while others thought he wasn’t fulfilling a primary striker’s duty of scoring enough goals.

However, the £35,000-a-week man has certainly proved his critics wrong this term, and hopefully he’ll prove his former employers wrong this weekend too.
