Arsenal stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette both limped off the pitch due to what seemed like an injury after impressive individual performances against Aston Villa at the Emirates last night.
The Gunners were absolutely outstanding in the first half. They dominated the game and gave Villa no opportunity to threaten. Goals from Thomas Partey and Aubameyang gave the home side a 2-0 lead at the break.
Emile Smith Rowe, who was arguably the man of the match, extended Arsenal’s lead a few minutes into the second half and that killed off the game.
Arsenal were very comfortable for most parts and fans were delighted with the response after Monday night. However, seeing Aubameyang and Lacazette hobble off the pitch was concerning to every Gooner.
Have Aubameyang and Lacazette picked up an injury?
Arteta was a happy man in his post-match press conference and he was asked about the real reason why he had to withdraw his two star strikers. Thankfully for Arsenal supporters, there’s nothing to worry about.
On Lacazette hobbling off, Arteta said, as per Arsenal.com: “Laca was fatigue. He hasn’t played that many minutes. He worked so hard and at some stage, he just said ‘I’ve had enough’ and he was cramping.”
Aubameyang was suffering from the same issue. Arteta said: “No, no (Auba is not injured). He was just cramping.”

Auba and Laca were excellent
As soon as the team news was announced, most Arsenal fans expected Aubameyang to start on the left flank with Lacazette playing through the middle. However, Arteta went with a 4-4-1-1 of sorts.
Aubameyang was the main man up top and the Frenchman played just behind him. He was almost an unorthodox number 10 at times, and he performed exceedingly well as long as he was on the pitch.
The former Dortmund man was excellent as well. He seems to have added link-up play to his game now and although he missed his penalty, he showed tremendous composure to score from the rebound with his weaker foot.
Both strikers have now shown they can play together up front under Arteta, but will we see them start together again next week? Only time will tell.
