'He played well': Marcus Rashford impressed by £30m reported Newcastle target's display at the World Cup
Marcus Rashford has praised the performance of reported Newcastle United target Goncalo Ramos at the World Cup.
Ramos was a surprise inclusion in Portugal’s starting XI against Switzerland on Tuesday night and his night could hardly have gone better.
He fired home a hat-trick in a 6-1 win to set up a quarter-final clash with Morocco on Saturday afternoon, bursting onto the scene in the process.
90Min reported in August that Newcastle held talks over signing Ramos and he was available for around £30 million at that stage.

That price looks like it is only set to rise after his sensational night, and Ramos now has the same number of goals as Rashford at the World Cup – three.
On England’s official YouTube channel, Rashford was asked about Ramos and said he was impressed with what he saw.
Rashford said: I don’t think that lad has had many starts for Portugal, so it’s a big moment for him. I’m obviously happy for him!
“I think he played well in the game so he deserves it.”
Newcastle perhaps do not urgently need a centre-forward right now, although eventually you would expect Chris Wood to be moved aside in favour of a younger, more dynamic frontman.
With the January window approaching, it seems most likely that a one in, one out approach will be taken, with James Maddison clearly a player of interest but potentially still too expensive next month.
Ramos is only two goals away from Kylian Mbappe, who is leading the Golden Boot race, and Rashford will also hope to close the gap on Saturday when England play France.
