‘He looks the part now’: Tim Howard says £42m Tottenham player was absolutely terrible before Postecoglou

Well, it’s fair to say that Ange Postecoglou has completely transformed Tottenham in a matter of months.

We’re not exaggerating when we say that Tottenham were genuinely one of the worst teams in the Premier League towards the end of last season, but now, they’re flying high at the very top of the table and are unbeaten after nine games.

Postecoglou has changed Spurs’ fortunes almost overnight, and certain players have improved dramatically too.

Speaking on NBC, Tim Howard has highlighted Cristian Romero as one player who has improved massively this season, claiming that he didn’t look like a Premier League defender before Postecoglou came in, but now, he more than looks the part.

Romero has improved

Howard spoke about the £42m player and his improvement this season.

“What Ange Postecoglou has done is he’s given his players freedom, freedom to make mistakes. Udogie, Pape Sarr, and Romero. Romero was a guy, I just thought he wasn’t a Premier League defender, but he looks the part now, and a lot of that is down to Postecoglou,” Howard said.

Romero has been brilliant

Howard may be being a bit harsh when he says that Romero didn’t look like a Premier League player last season, but he’s spot on in saying that he’s improved this term.

Romero looks like a completely different player to last season. He’s playing with so much more confidence, and he’s nowhere near as rash.

He’s clearly learnt a lot from his new manager, and he’s finally playing in a system that suits him.

Romero has always been a talented player back to his days in Serie A – he’s a World Cup winner for goodness sake, but now, he’s showing his abilities at Premier League level, and it’s been a joy to watch so far this season.
