'He knows': Jamie Carragher stunned by Eddie Nketiah miss at Everton tonight
Arsenal lost out to Everton this evening as a late Demarai Gray stunner ensured the Toffees picked up a much needed win at Goodison Park.
The Gunners had the lead through Martin Odegaard but couldn’t build on in. In fact, Richarlison had two goals ruled out by VAR before he eventually nodded in the equaliser for Everton. Overall, it was a poor performance from the Gunners.
However, with the game at 1-1, they had a golden chance to go 2-1 up when Eddie Nketiah missed a header at the back post when he simply had to score. And Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was stunned by the miss, questioning whether Nketiah was too concerned with the goalkeeper.
“He’s got to score. I mean, when you look at the chances they’ve had later on. That’s got to put you 2-1 up. That’s just got to be a goal. You can’t miss,” Carragher said live on Sky.
“It’s just got to 2-1. Great delivery from Saka. He’s got to score. I don’t know if he’s worried about the keeper or the post, but it’s a huge opportunity and he knows that.”
Nketiah was surprisingly introduced by Mikel Arteta in the second half. The young striker is not signing a new contract and is set to leave the club in the summer.
TBR’s View: Nketiah has to score, it was a shocker
This was the sort of moment from Nketiah that has had Arsenal fans questioning him all along. As Carragher say, he just has to score at the back post.
It looked like Nketiah bottled it a bit, simply. He glanced at the keeper and moved his head slightly rather than just powering it in. Crucially, it cost the Gunners.
