Alan Shearer has now been discussing the monumental impact James Ward-Prowse has had since arriving at West Ham United.

Shearer was speaking on the BBC’s Match of the Day 2 and was hailing Ward-Prowse as one of the best set-piece takers in the world.

Ward-Prowse delivered another two assists for his new side against Nottingham Forest yesterday, and was key to a late revival for West Ham.

Shearer said Ward-Prowse’s deliveries were a nightmare for defenders, and said he’s been the best around for a long while now.

He said: “James Ward-Prowse is world class. He is the best around and has been for a long time.

“Two assists today, he’s got nine all season in all comps, more than any other Premier League player, it’s a nightmare for defenders.”

Of course, it now seems peculiar that there was such resistance to Ward-Prowse signing in the summer.

Whilst David Moyes was said to want the player, he was reportedly receiving opposition from others at the club.

But as Shearer would probably point out, having Ward-Prowse at a set-piece heavy team like Moyes’ West Ham seemed a no-brainer.

Shearer thinks West Ham’s Ward-Prowse has been world class for some time

It’s not surprising that comparisons with David Beckham are often thrown around when discussing the £30m midfielder.

And there will always be the debate as to whether Gareth Southgate’s England are missing out on a serious weapon.

Shearer is right in suggesting that Ward-Prowse is the best in the business, as he’s again proving at West Ham.

And after an excellent comeback win yesterday, David Moyes’ side can enjoy a relief of pressure.

Moyes has perhaps faced unfair scrutiny over the last year or so, a manager who seems to endure more pressure than those around him.

Going well in Europe, West Ham also now sit 9th in the Premier League.

However, it still feels as if the side are always a couple of defeats away from a mini-crisis.

But with Ward-Prowse in his side, David Moyes will be confident that his West Ham team can achieve big things this season.
