‘He is suffering’: Chris Sutton says 28-year-old Arsenal player is really struggling right now

Arsenal remain unbeaten in the Premier League, but, somehow, it still feels like there’s a bit of a crisis brewing at the Emirates.

Indeed, while Arsenal are yet to lose a game in the league this season, Mikel Arteta’s management is being called into question on a semi-regular basis at the moment.

This is largely down to how he’s handling his goalkeeping situation with David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale.

As we all know, Arteta has recently ditched Ramsdale for Raya in a call that hasn’t been well-received by the wider footballing world.

Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Chris Sutton has been discussing the two goalkeepers, and he’s joined the ranks of those criticising Arteta’s decision to drop Ramsdale for Raya, claiming that the Spanish goalkeeper himself is suffering at the moment due to the scrutiny that has come along with this decision.

Raya is suffering

Sutton shared his verdict on the goalkeeper.

“I think he’s made a big mistake because I think Ramsdale is the better goalkeeper, he sees him every day though. I feel that Raya now is feeling the heat with it and he is suffering because of this whole situation himself. He’s certainly jittery isn’t he?” Sutton said.

How can Arteta fix it?

Arteta has created a massive circus around the goalkeeping situation at Arsenal, and the worrying thing is that there’s no easy fix in sight.

Indeed, no matter what Arteta does next, his decisions are going to be under the microscope, and both Ramsdale and Raya are going to be examined to the nth degree.

Arteta has created a rod for his own back here, and the old adage of if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it has perhaps never been more relevant at Arsenal.

Raya is suffering, and Arteta needs to figure out a way to stabilise this situation before it starts costing his team.
