Eddie Howe is still hunting for a new striker ahead of the transfer deadline at 7pm on Monday.
Newcastle are chasing Jorgen Strand Larsen, but it remains to be seen whether this pursuit will continue after Wolves rejected a £55m bid on Wednesday.
The Magpies also want Yoane Wissa – who is on strike at Brentford as he tries to force the move – but several bids have been rejected, the most recent of which was worth £40m.
As Newcastle struggle to make progress in the search for a striker, reports have emerged which claim Lautaro Martinez could be an option – although the Inter Milan No.10’s agent has now poured cold water on these rumours.
Alejandro Camano ridicules Lautaro Martinez to Newcastle links
FC Inter 1908 have exclusively asked Alejandro Camano for comment on stories linking the Argentina international with a move to Tyneside, and the Spaniard stamped on the rumours.
The 46-year-old said: “Lautaro plays for Inter, the European runner-up team. He’s Inter’s captain, he’s happy at Inter. There are questions that don’t even (need) an answer.”
Martinez – who Lionel Messi has called “spectacular” – scored 24 goals in 53 appearances last season as Inter Milan reached the UEFA Champions League final, and has a contract at the San Siro which expires in July 2029.
Therefore, it would take a seriously large bid for the Italian giants to even consider selling their captain this late in the window.
Jorgen Strand Larsen asks to leave Wolves and seems most likely to join Newcastle
As aforesaid, Newcastle have seen a £55m bid rejected from Wolves for Larsen – although the Norway international wants the move and a replacement is being pursued.
TBR Football understand Wolves are looking to sign Tolu Arokodare from Genk as Newcastle sniff around Molineux, which suggests there is an openness to doing business with the Magpies.
Wolves want £70m for Larsen – although sources close to Newcastle believe the next bid will be worth closer to £60m.
Nevertheless, it does feel like an agreement is edging closer as Wolves turn to Arokodare.
