Reported Arsenal target Houssem Aouar has been praised by compatriot Olivier Dacourt, in conversation with Tuttomercatoweb.

The Daily Mail have claimed that the Lyon midfielder has admirers at Arsenal, and is one of a number of names that could be targeted this summer by the Gunners as Mikel Arteta looks to reshape his team.

With nine goals and six assists in all competitions, 2019-20 is shaping up to be the best of Aouar’s career, and at just 21 years old, there is a lot of potential for further progress.

Therefore, it’s little surprise that he is said to be on the Emirates Stadium side’s radar, and according to retired France international Dacourt, his countryman is already the best player in Lyon’s midfield.

“He is fabulous,” Dacourt said ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Lyon and Juventus.

“He is technically good. He must grow, but he is the one with more quality than the (rest of) the Lyon midfield.”

Aside from the impressive stats, Aouar has also been spoken of very highly in footballing circles for a number of years now.

Along with the above comments by Dacourt, he was also praised by Pep Guardiola, who told Sky Sports: “He is incredible. He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.”

Aouar has also modelled himself on France legend Zinedine Zidane, who he idolised growing up (Ligue 1), and has been compared by the Daily Mail to Arsenal great Aaron Ramsey.

Given all the credentials and praise on his CV at such a young age, he would certainly be a huge asset for Mikel Arteta and co if they can get him to follow in Alexandre Lacazette’s footsteps.
