'He is an amazing striker': What Salomon Rondon said about Newcastle target

Newcastle United have become the latest club to eye a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with The Telegraph reporting that the Magpies have added the Everton striker to their wishlist.

In truth, it should come as no surprise. The Magpies clearly have lofty ambitions. And the 24-year-old is one of the Premier League’s best in front of goal.

He has scored 32 times in the top flight since the start of the 2019/2020 season. And he has three in three at the beginning of this campaign.

He has been struggling with injury so far this year. But that has presented a chance to a player Newcastle fans know very well.

Is PSGs Business Model Destined To Fail?

Salomon Rondon followed Rafa Benitez to Goodison Park. Of course, the pair last worked together in China.

But before that, they were together at St James’ Park. And the Venezuelan enjoyed an excellent year on loan on Tyneside.

So Newcastle fans will love what Rondon said about Calvert-Lewin earlier this season, as he lauded the England international.

“Yes I saw the games he played in the past year, he is an amazing striker,” Rondon told Everton TV, via the Liverpool Echo.

“He scored three goals in three games, I am coming to help the team and help him have possibilities [to score].

Calvert-Lewin signing would be an ‘amazing’ piece of business for Newcastle

Admittedly, Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injury of late. But he seems to tick so many boxes as a forward.

He can be lethal in front of goal. But he also offers so much more, particularly in the build-up play.

Right now, it is hard to imagine him swapping Merseyside for St James’. Newcastle still have a lot to do before they are signing some of the most exciting players in world football.

But statements will certainly be made in the transfer market. And landing Calvert-Lewin would unquestionably be a huge one.
