‘He has that No. 9 instinct’: Thierry Henry blown away by reported Arsenal target

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has praised reported Gunners target Gabriel Jesus, in conversation with CBS Sport.

Mikel Arteta’s charges have been heavily linked with the Manchester City and Brazil striker in recent days.

The Athletic has reported on how Jesus’ representatives have been in discussions with Edu and Arsenal for a number of months already.

In addition, the Citizens and Selecao striker is reportedly open to a move to north London.

Meanwhile, David Ornstein told The Athletic Football Podcast that Arsenal have all-but agreed personal terms with Jesus.

He also claimed the Gunners are favourites to secure his signature, though it’s not quite at the club discussion stage.

If Man City sign Erling Braut Haaland in the summer, it would push Jesus down the pecking order.

The 25-year-old’s contract expires in 2023, so this is the last chance City have of getting a decent sum for him.

If they leave it until next year, he could leave for very little in January, or for nothing in the summer.

Jesus is a great shout for Arsenal in terms of potential new recruits up front.

He is a world-class forward in the peak of his career and has considerable Premier League experience.

Jesus is also versatile, able to play at centre-forward as well as on the flanks.

“He has what the number nine would smell”

The Man City man scored a staggering four goals against Watford last weekend.

He also netted against Real Madrid in midweek.

And Henry liked what he saw from Jesus.

‘What he can give offensively to the team,’ the Highbury icon said on CBS Sports, via Metro.

“We saw that he scored four goals at the weekend [against Watford].

“When he is in the box, he’s one of the three that is playing, or since [Sergio] Aguero left, he has that nine instinct.

“He has what the number nine would smell.

“What I like with him is that when he puts pressure, whether it’s on the left, on the right or in the middle, he doesn’t have a problem to defend in them situations by coming back and helping his team.”
