Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has waxed lyrical about new Spurs teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of England’s UEFA Nations League meeting with Denmark tonight.

Jose Mourinho’s side had been linked with Hojbjerg for months and, in August, he sealed a reported £15million move to North London, penning a five-year contract.

While Dier and Hojbjerg are now teammates at club level, they will be on opposite sides when Gareth Southgate’s charges lock horns with Denmark in Copenhagen.

“After seeing him more closely since he arrived at Tottenham, he’s a great player,” Dier said of Hojbjerg, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

“He’s going to bring a lot to the Tottenham team. He has attributes that we’ve been missing.

“He’s very professional, he has a fantastic attitude and work rate and I think he brings leadership qualities as well.

“He speaks a lot on the pitch, he pushes his teammates and he demands things from his teammates.

“In the way that he plays, he’s quite combative and aggressive and brings more fight to the midfield, which is good for us.”

Hojbjerg had been with Southampton since 2016, when he joined from Bayern Munich for a reported £12.8million (BBC Sport), and made 134 appearances in all competitions for them prior to joining Spurs.

Prior to his spell in England, Hojbjerg had been at Bayern Munich since moving from Brondby in 2012, and has won four Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and a Club World Cup with the German club.

Hojbjerg is a high-calibre player with an impressive CV; a dynamic, tenacious midfielder with great passing, vision, an eye for goal and leadership skills, as proven by his captain’s armband at Premier League level.

Indeed, former Southampton teammate Angus Gunn has previously deemed him a “great leader” and “great player to have in the dressing room” (Daily Echo).

With Dier now singing his praises too, it shows just how good a player he is and how Spurs fans are in for a treat when the Premier League season gets under way.
