Destiny Udogie has been accused of making a number of dangerous tackles for Tottenham.
VAR is, once again, at the centre of a lot of controversy after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s sending off against Crystal Palace on Thursday.
The England international was dismissed against the Eagles after a firm challenge, but the idea of this challenge being serious foul play was ludicrous.
Calvert-Lewin didn’t endanger Nathaniel Clyne with this tackle, and if that’s a red card, we may see numerous dismissals in every game every week.
Speaking on Off The Ball, Keith Treacy has been discussing Calvert-Lewin’s red card, and he compared the Everton striker’s challenge to some tackles Destiny Udogie has made this season, claiming that the Italian has got away with similar on numerous occasions.

Udogie can make dangerous tackles
Treacy shared his verdict on Calvert-Lewin and the £15m Tottenham ace.
“I didn’t think it was a dangerous one, you could say it was straight legged, but he didn’t go in with any force to try and do him. Even if he goes in straight on the shin it’s not a leg-breaker, when you hear that they’ve gone in straight-legged you think it’s a leg-breaker, I’ve seen Udogie do it at Spurs a few times and he gets away with it,” Treacy said.
Ridiculous
This is the problem with VAR.
A controversial red card used to be acceptable in football. Referees would get one look at it at full speed and a decision would have to be made in an instant.
It was understandable when a referee would get those borderline calls wrong, but now, with the aid of replays, it’s impossible to excuse these sorts of decisions.
As for Udogie, he can be rough in the tackle at times, but he does seem to be able to get away with it, and, in all honesty, there isn’t much wrong with the types of tackles the full-back makes.
