Simon Jordan has suggested Mikel Arteta lacks substance in some of his actions and believes the Kroenke’s might stop the big spending soon.
The Gunners boss has been backed to the hilt in recent windows. This last summer saw more than £200m spent again, as the likes of Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber all arrived.
However, a run of poor results has once again left Arsenal struggling to keep up at the summit and they currently sit five points off table toppers Liverpool.
And speaking about the job Arteta has done at the club, TalkSPORT’s Simon Jordan has admitted that the Spanish coach frustrates him at times.

Simon Jordan says Mikel Arteta really frustrates him
Speaking on TalkSPORT alongside Graeme Souness, Jordan admitted that he finds parts of Arteta’s management annoying.
“I have mixed emotions about Arteta. [He frustrates me] a little bit because I think there is a lot of noise and sometimes I think the substance isn’t quite there. I thought that before yet he produced a said last year which was really worth applauding and had real merit attached to it. I can’t make head nor tail of the debates about goalkeepers being rotated or the Havertz situation and I don’t like some of the nonsense that he has come out with about referees and the way the club has supported him,” Jordan said.
“But I don’t know if Arsenal will continue to spend the money they have with him, because they have spent like drunken sailors, ever since the European Super League it seems that Kroenke has woken up and realised this isn’t an arms length subsidiary of an American business. Quite fancies there is some value in it because he’s seen Chelsea be sold for £2.5 billion and has made some money available. But I don’t think you can go on spending £200 to £250 million every season and have one FA Cup in three and a half years.”
Arteta has to win
We all know the Premier League is a tough old league to be successful in. But Mikel Arteta has had numerous windows now to shape his squad and he needs to start winning.
Last year felt like a golden chance for Arsenal and they blew it when they got eight points clear at one stage. That just cannot happen, albeit it it looks like they’ve blown a chance again.
The Gunners had City far behind once more this season and they’ve let them in. And with Liverpool and Aston Villa also in the mix now as well, Arsenal’s task is even harder.
Mikel Arteta – who himself earns a huge £160k-a-week in wages – can have few complaints. As Jordan touches on, he’s even had the club back him in situations that have been borderline ridiculous.
Ultimately Arteta needs to start winning trophies and soon. Otherwise, like all managers, he’ll simply be moved on.
