'He cannot join the group': Nuno says Tottenham's £23m man definitely won't be playing against Mura tonight
Nuno has confirmed to Football London that Tottenham Hotspur attacker Steven Bergwijn is still out and not ready to play this evening.
Bergwijn to miss out
The Tottenham boss was asked whether Bergwijn was available this evening to play against Mura in the Conference League.
However, it seems that the Dutch winger is still not even nearly ready to get back to playing again.
“In terms of team news nothing has changed, Steven unfortunately is still out. He cannot join the group,” he said.
Blow for Tottenham
Bergwijn picked up the problem during the past international break.
He has since been seen wearing a protective boot, although the exact length of his injury has not yet been communicated.
Bergwijn had played a key role for Nuno’s side up until he was sidelined, so his current issue has to be a considered a disappointment.
The 23-year-old struggled for game time last year under Jose Mourinho, but looked like he was set to play a key role for Spurs over the coming campaign during the early part of the season.
Nuno had utilised Bergwijn’s pace on the counter attack very well, and when he was in Spurs’ team their results were much more positive.
Tottenham will, therefore, hope that Bergwijn is back sooner rather than later – with the pressure starting to build on them to get back to winning ways.
