Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been named in Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week.
The 28-year-old was in inspired form for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Anfield.
Liverpool fell behind in the 13th minute when VAR ruled Fabinho’s foul on Oli McBurnie had been just inside the home box for a penalty which Sander Berge converted.
However, the Reds battled back and Mane – who could’ve had the opener with barely a minute played – had a big hand in both of his side’s goals.
On 41 minutes, the £100,000-a-week ace saw his header saved by Aaron Ramsdale, leading to Roberto Firmino firing home the rebound.
Mane then provided an excellent cross for Diogo Jota to nod home in the 64th minute, a goal which ensured that Liverpool made it two wins in a row in all competitions.
“He can hurt you in the centre or out wide,” Shearer wrote about Mane on the Premier League website.
“His close-range header led to Roberto Firmino’s equaliser and he set up the winner with a great cross.”
Another game, another impressive performance from Mane, who remains one of Liverpool’s key players thanks to his class and consistency.
It’s been a tricky start to the season for the Reds but the Senegal international boasts four goals and two assists from just seven games, testament to his sheer quality.
