'He can hit the ball!': Mat Ryan says one of Arsenal's defenders has a really powerful shot
Arsenal goalkeeper Mat Ryan has revealed that Cedric Soares is one of the strongest strikers of the ball in the Gunners squad.
On Friday, the Australian took part in a Q&A on Twitch, and was asked which Arsenal player could hit the ball the hardest.
It was no surprise to hear that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette were Ryan’s top two – that’s what they get paid for, after all.
However, the Brighton loanee also named two players who fans probably wouldn’t have expected to be up there.
“Laca and Auba, they both are quite difficult to stop,” Ryan said when asked about Arsenal’s best strikers of the ball.
“I’d say those two and also I’ve had a bit of a battle with Cedric as well. He can hit the ball!
“David Luiz as well, in training he likes to have a pop from distance and he can make the ball float and move in different directions.”
Cedric joined Arsenal in January last year, initially on loan from Southampton before signing on a free transfer in the summer.
He has made 24 senior appearances in all competitions this season, of which 10 have been in the Premier League.
Cedric has largely been deployed as cover at both right-back and left-back this season, but Mikel Arteta has opted for other players in those positions later on in the campaign.
The Arsenal boss has used Granit Xhaka at left-back while Kieran Tierney was out injured, while Calum Chambers has been deployed on the right-hand side, with Cedric left on the bench.
