There have been promoted sides who have done well in the Premier League, especially in the early part of the season.
But has there been a team that has made it look as natural as Wolves? Nuno Santo’s side are not giving off the impression that they are punching above their weight or needing to collect points while the going is good.
The quality of their players and their style of football means that the top half of the Premier League is their natural home.
Winning four of their last five league games, without conceding a goal – the other being a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford when they deserved to win – is just to be expected of a team this good.
That means that there is a case for saying no promoted team has adapted to life in the top flight as well as Wolves have.
That’s because their entire squad has been put together with the Premier League in mind; players were lured into the Championship on the understanding it was a stepping stone to the big-time, on wages that befit their quality.
That no eyebrows have been raised at Wolves’ form shows exactly how good they are. They are not a flash in the pan like Phil Brown’s Hull or flawed entertainers like Ian Holloway’s Blackpool.
They are the real deal.
