Have West Ham missed their chance with Maxi Gomez as Barcelona circle?
Barcelona are looking for a target to replace Luis Suarez in their front line and they could turn to Maxi Gomez, according to Mundo Deportivo, and it comes only a month after The Guardian reported that West Ham were ready to pay his £43.5 million release clause.
The Uruguayan striker has been a sensation in La Liga since moving to Spain from his home country two years ago and a summer move now looks likely.
The Spanish newspaper claims that Ernesto Valverde and company have identified the target man as their first choice alternative to his compatriot Suarez, though he was strongly linked with the Hammers in January.

With nine goals and five assists in 22 games this season, it is clear why there is so much interest in his services and his release clause may be put to the test come the arrival of the summer transfer window.
West Ham had looked to be in a strong position, but the arrival of the reigning La Liga champions and current leaders into the race could put paid to any hopes that the Irons have of sealing a deal.
Gomez is likely to be one of the key names of the summer transfer window and where he ends up remains to be seen, though this is not good news for the east London club.
