A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter in response to interest in Goodison Park striker Cenk Tosun by a rival Premier League player.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan recently told Fanatik – as translated by Goal.com – that he would welcome the signing of the Toffees forward.

Tosun joined Everton from Besiktas in 2018 for a reported £27million fee and has clocked up 51 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 10 goals and claiming six assists.

However, the Turkey international has made just eight appearances for Everton this term.

In January, Tosun linked up with fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season after falling out of favour at Everton.

The Toffees man made five appearances for the Eagles, scoring on his full debut to help secure a 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

However, Tosun returned to Goodison Park after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training at Palace and is undergoing rehabilitation.

Gundogan has identified both Tosun and his Turkey teammate Caglar Soyuncu as two who could make the cut at the Etihad Stadium.

“The first one that comes to my mind about the Turkish player I want to see at Manchester City is Caglar,” he told Fanatik.

“I would also count Cenk Tosun. He may be at this level in the near future. I think he has also played well, but he suffered an unlucky injury.

“He also scored a goal in the match we played at home against Crystal Palace. I think he’s settled in the Premier League. He deserves it.”
