'Have Liverpool lost their mind?' - Garth Crooks discusses Reds midfielder
Liverpool cruised to a second successive league win as they beat Burnley 2-0. Goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane secured the win, but Jordan Henderson was excellent in midfield. Garth Crooks, though, has questioned the club’s board and Michael Edwards regarding Henderson on BBC.
Henderson, 31, was missing during the opening game – a 3-0 win over Norwich. But he returned not just to the bench, but to the starting line-up against Burnley and the England star lasted 90 minutes. It was a near-perfect display, though they did ride their luck at times against Burnley.
Speculation arose over the future of the Liverpool midfielder after a report from The Athletic. Despite Henderson having two years left on his contract, his lack of long-term future saw PSG interested. Henderson is expected to sign on at Liverpool, but Crooks questioned why it was ever in doubt.
“Have Liverpool lost their mind? They have allowed Wijnaldum to leave Anfield. Surely they can’t be contemplating the same thing,” Crooks said. “The Liverpool captain dictated play like Andre Previn used to conduct the London Symphony Orchestra. Henderson was at his commanding best.”
Crooks on Henderson: New deal a no-brainer for Liverpool
It has to be a no-brainer. It should not have got to the stage in which it has, attracting other clubs over a possible move in the next couple of windows. Liverpool have seemingly decided to end the speculation surrounding some of their bigger players, £20million signing (Telegraph) Henderson is next,
While the fans are crying out for new signings, keeping their best is just as important. Getting Henderson tied down to the club is crucial. He is the kind of player that needs to stay at Liverpool until he is beyond 35 – even for his presence in the squad alone. A crucial bit of business that must be done.
