Have Leeds missed trick as PL side trigger clause for 25-year-old; Orta led race to sign him in January?
According to a recent report from The Athletic, Leeds United could look at signing another winger during the summer transfer window.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side signed Jack Harrison permanently. And with Raphinha and Helder Costa amongst those also in the ranks, the Whites are able to keep an eye out for potential targets without feeling under pressure.
It would also perhaps allow Leeds to roll the dice a little more if they do want to sign another wide-man.
So perhaps, it may be fair to question whether the Whites may have missed a trick as one of their Premier League rival closes in on a new signing.
According to Sky Sports, Demarai Gray is nearing a move to Everton. It is claimed that he could undergo a medical on Tuesday.
Surprisingly, he could cost just £1.5 million. According to German outlet Kicker, that fee would trigger a clause in the 25-year-old’s contract.
It is an interesting piece of business from the Toffees. Gray has not had the best time over the last few years.
But given the fee, it is surely worth the gamble. And because of that, perhaps Leeds may be wondering if they will rue seeing him head to Goodison Park.
It was reported back in January that Leeds were leading the race to sign Gray. At the time, he was edging towards the final stages of his contract with Leicester City.
Of course, he ultimately left the Foxes for Bayer Leverkusen in that window.
He went on to score once and provide two assists in 10 Bundesliga games.
Will Leeds wonder whether Demarai Gray could’ve been answer amid interest in new winger?
It remains to be seen if Gray can realise the early potential he showed. But the risk Everton are taking is minimised greatly by the incredibly low fee involved.
Leeds may have something special lined up their sleeve for later on in the window.
But perhaps, they may now keep a very keen eye on seeing how Gray gets on at Everton as they wonder whether they should have reignited their interest.
