‘Hasn’t got going’: BBC pundit says £22m Tottenham player has not looked right all season so far

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has told Radio 5 Live that Tottenham Hotspur winger Heung-Min Son has not looked right all season so far. 

Son was ruled out of Tottenham’s 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday after he underwent surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left-eye.

The £22 million man took a heavy blow to the face during Spurs’ win over Marseille last week and was forced off the pitch in the first-half. 

The South Korean star has struggled to find consistency and build on winning the Golden Boot award last time out. And Sutton feels Son just hasn’t got going under Antonio Conte this season.

“Son’s form – he’s in my fantasy team and I’ve stuck with him – but he just hasn’t got going all season,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I know he’s got injured and I hope he makes the World Cup but his form hasn’t quite been there.”

Barring a couple of brilliant displays against Leicester City and Eintracht Frankfurt, Son hasn’t got on the scoresheet in the other 17 appearances he’s made this season.

The 30-year-old bagged a brilliant hat-trick against the Foxes and a brace against Frankfurt.

But he seems to be severely lacking in confidence right now after a slow start to the season.

Yet, Spurs still missed him massively on Sunday as they were lacking players willing to make runs in behind Liverpool’s defence.

Son has shown flashes of brilliance this season and signs that he was getting back to his old self, but has largely been underwhelming.

The winger looks likely to be back in time for the World Cup, with Conte recently telling the BBC that he’s confident he will be fit for South Korea’s opener. 

The Italian will be hoping Son can rebuild his confidence in Qatar ahead of returning to north London for the second-half of the season.
