Ralph Hasenhuttl lost his first match since taking over at Southampton.
And the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City would have shown Hasenhuttl exactly how big a job he has to do at St Mary’s Stadium.
Southampton’s defensive fragility was exposed by Cardiff, especially when summer signing Jannik Vestergaard gave the ball away for the Bluebirds’ winner.
Hasenhuttl is tasked with keeping Southampton up this season and a new centre-back must be his priority in January.
Could he look to his former club Red Bull Leipzig and try to bring Ibrahima Konate with him to England?
Hasenhuttl was the manager when RB Leipzig signed Konate from Sochaux and he is one of the best young defenders in Europe.
The France under-20 international could replicate the success of fellow countryman and West Ham star Issa Diop if he moves to Southampton.
Both players are French youth internationals with plenty of experience at club level already.
And the pair are both dominant powerhouse players, standing at 6ft 4in tall.
Konate has all the ingredients to be a success in England and it might be worth a gamble, considering Southampton’s current options are struggling in central defence.
The 19-year-old could prove to be an immediate fix at centre-half and a long-term solution in that department for the Saints.
