Vincent Janssen has posted on Instagram ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace – their first at the new stadium – but is it a hint that he could feature on Wednesday night?
The 24-year-old has failed to feature for Spurs this season as he overcomes a foot injury. He has since played for the club’s Under-23 side after returning to fitness in January.
But he was overlooked for the 25-man Premier League squad earlier in the season. Mauricio Pochettino had a chance to include him back in that squad list in January – which remains to be seen.
Janssen posted a picture on Instagram which sees him training alongside Dele Alli, Juan Foyth and Serge Aurier, just hours before kick-off on Wednesday night. Loanee Georges N’Koudou even asked, “you’re back?”
It has been a difficult few years for Janssen. His £17million move from AZ Alkmaar brought pressure and expectancy, but ended in failure.
In his first season, he managed just six goals with Spurs – four of which were penalties. He went on loan to Fenerbahce but only played 18 times after picking up the foot injury. He scored five goals.
The injury has kept him sidelined and he has now failed to play for Spurs since August 2017. But Wednesday night could possibly see him return, and what an occasion to mark your return at the new stadium.
