'Has to consider': Journalist claims Arsenal have a chance of landing £55m forward who's like Salah
Dean Jones has claimed that Arsenal might have a chance of landing Leeds United ace Raphinha this summer.
However, the transfer insider – writing on GiveMeSport – suggested the Gunners might not be what the Brazilian “has in mind”.
Nonetheless, Raphinha might have to “consider” a move to Arsenal if he fails to join the likes of Bayern Munich or Barcelona.
Arsenal are looking to bolster their ranks ahead of their return to European football next season.
A new striker is the priority, but the Gunners are apparently also keeping tabs on wide players.
Raphinha has proven himself to be one of the most exciting attacking talents in the Premier League.
Last season, he scored 11 goals contributed three assists from 35 top-flight appearances.
However, his future at Elland Road remains uncertain.
And Leeds are reportedly open to selling Raphinha providing a suitors can meet their valuation.
Barcelona were initially viewed as the likeliest club to sign Raphinha.
However, Leeds’ purported £55million valuation of the 25-year-old means Barca may struggle to sign him.
Jones, writing on GiveMeSport, doesn’t believe the Emirates Stadium will be Raphinha’s destination of choice.
However, if he hasn’t secured a move later down the line, he might be open to joining Mikel Arteta’s side.
“I can understand why they might go after him,” said Jones.
“I don’t think that’s what Raphinha has in mind when he’s been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona and whoever else.
“But if we get further down the line in this transfer window and he’s still at Leeds, it might be one he has to consider.”
“Build an admiration”
Arsenal would get themselves a superb player in Raphinha.
He is an exciting attacker who has proven himself in the Premier League and looks set for stardom.
Alan Curbishley said one of Raphinha’s goals last season – against Norwich in November – was “Salah-like”.
Indeed, the Leeds star admitted in April that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was one of his inspirations.
“Over time and playing against players you get that experience and contact with them on the pitch you build an admiration for them,” Raphinha told talkSPORT.
“I’d say that Mohamed Salah is one of those for the way that he plays, others as well.”
