Newcastle United may have been handed a transfer boost by Brendan Rodgers.
The Leicester City manager has been speaking about the future of winger Demarai Gray at the King Power Stadium, and it appears an exit could be on the cards.
Gray has moved into the shadows at the club in recent times, and has only made one appearance in 2020/21 so far.
There was plenty of hype surrounding him when he first joined the club, but the ex-Birmingham City attacker has been unable to kick on, with the Foxes now in possession of players like Harvey Barnes and Cengiz Under.
It can also be argued that Leicester’s wing-backs system doesn’t really allow for Gray.
Rodgers said of the 24-year-old (Sky Sports): “It’s pretty clear with Demarai that he’s looking to move on. His attitude to training has been first class, he has been very professional.
“He is at the stage of his career where he has been here a long time and hasn’t maybe nailed down a place. A fresh start may be the course for him.
“I will always respect him and until his last day I will never discard him but it’s looking more than likely he will probably be somewhere else next season.”
Newcastle were linked with a swoop for Gray back in July (Telegraph).
TBR’s View – Newcastle’s opportunity to add strength in depth
So it seems Gray’s days in the Midlands are numbered, and Newcastle may well have an opporunity to strike.
Bruce could do with attacking reinforcements in January, and in Gray, they could sign a player looking to prove a point.
He will likely be raring to kickstart his career again having stalled a bit in recent times, and Newcastle could be a great move for him.
With his contract expiring next year, there’s potential for Newcastle to land him for a cut-price fee next month or for free in the summer.
