Has Oliver Burke been set up to fail at Celtic?

Celtic forward Oliver Burke appears to be struggling at the club now following a bright start to his Parkhead loan move.

The 22-year-old announced his arrival in Scotland by firing four goals in his first seven Premiership games.

Since then though the goals have dried up for Burke, and fans have been debating whether or not he should be signed on a permanent deal.

At one point it looked like an easy decision for Celtic – especially with Burke seemingly being open to it himself – but things are different now.

The player is struggling to show his best form, but arguably it’s not entirely his fault.

TBR’s view

He may have started with a bang playing as a central striker, but Burke is clearly not a natural centre forward.

Perhaps he got lucky in the beginning and was able to act on a sense of striving to impress in a new environment.

Of late, Burke just hasn’t been able to light the place up as he did at the start.

Unfortunately his pace seems to be his only consistent asset, with his holding up of the ball and technical ability in need of some improvement.

Neil Lennon should be using him in the wide areas rather than shoehorning him into a position he is still uncomfortable in.

He cannot show his best there, and that will only hinder his chances of securing a permanent Celtic contract.
