Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark was recalled to the starting XI on Monday night for the Premier League win over Burnley.

But has he done enough to win over manager Rafael Benitez and convince him that he deserves to be a regular starter?

The Magpies earned a 2-1 away victory at Turf Moor, which has seen them climb to 13th in the league table after three consecutive wins.

Clark scored what turned out to be the winning goal with his powerful header in the first-half and looked relatively comfortable considering the amount of game time he’s had in recent months.

The 29-year-old centre-back slotted into a back three alongside the impressive pair of Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez.

Newcastle host West Ham on Saturday in their next league match and it will be intriguing to see how the defence shapes up, especially if captain Jamaal Lascelles is back in contention.

Clark impressed in the victory against Burnley, but it seems like he faces a difficult path if he wants to cement his position in the side in the long-term.

The Republic of Ireland international cost £5million (Sky Sports) from Aston Villa back in 2016 and has very much been a squad player in the top flight.
