Burnley winger Dwight McNeil is likely to be in for an interesting summer as he continues to shine for the Clarets despite his tender age – but has Kieran Trippier just hampered a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur?
McNeil, 20, has been in stunning form for Sean Dyche’s side this season – having a hand in seven goals during his 29 Premier League appearances. Given Burnley are much more focused on the defensive side of their game, McNeil’s stats are decent.
Newcastle United have been most recently linked with a move. The Daily Star claim Steve Bruce is plotting a move for the England Under-21 international this summer, but they are not likely to be the only side interested.
Indeed, the report claims Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton have been watching McNeil, who is rated at £35million. The Guardian claimed in December that Tottenham were also in the race, but ex-Burnley star Trippier has now had his say.

“If I was him I’d stay put and keep playing games,” Trippier told Burnley Express, when asked about McNeil’s future. “For somebody like him, who is doing really well, why would you move now? There’s no point.
“Just keep performing well on the biggest stage and stay put. He’s got the right manager to guide him and he’ll be in no rush to go anywhere. He’s playing well week in week out for a Premier League club. He’s a big player for Burnley.”
McNeil will look up to Trippier as an ex-Burnley player that has gone on to play in biggest competitions on the biggest stage. The right-back has played in the Champions League for Spurs and Atletico Madrid, and scored a World Cup semi-final goal.
So, McNeil will surely listen to Trippier’s advice and with the winger’s contract expiring in 2023, Spurs may miss out on the England wonderkid because of their former Tottenham star – as well as Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton and Man City.
