Jurgen Klopp has suggested in his pre-Sheffield United press conference – as quoted by the Liverpool Echo – that he wants to offer James Milner an extended Liverpool contract.
Milner, 33, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield and The Reds are in danger of seeing foreign sides look to land the Premier League veteran on a free transfer from January 1.
The versatile star, who has played on either side of the defence and in midfield for Liverpool, has overtaken Emile Heskey into sixth place in the list of players with the most Premier League appearances – he has 521.
Asked about Milner’s future after he scored in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over MK Dons in the week, Klopp suggested that Milner has plenty of life left in him – but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he did not comment on a new deal.

“Millie is unbelievably important,” Klopp said. “I’m happy saying that again and again. He is Mr Professional. He is serious in what he does but is funny in the dressing room.
“He looks like he has a few more years in him, but contract talks, we don’t talk about here. Not even about Milner.”
TBR’s view – So, is Klopp hinting at a new Liverpool deal for Milner?
If anyone deserves a new deal at Anfield, it is certainly Milner. He has been excellent for the Reds in recent years, and was crucial in Klopp’s side as they held aloft the Champions League trophy.
Milner is currently earning £140,000 a week (Spotrac) at Liverpool. But Klopp has certainly suggested that he is desperate to keep Milner, whether the player wants to stay at Liverpool beyond the summer remains to be seen.
