Brendan Rodgers has previously commented on Celtic’s “bloated” squad, implying that several players could face a January exit.
Celtic have a few fringe players that look likely to face the axe in January.
This list includes Jonny Hayes, who was given one last chance to impress Brendan Rodgers against Motherwell in midweek.
The diminutive winger, who has struggled for game time this season, was thrown straight into the starting line-up against Motherwell.
After Celtic came down from a dramatic week, in which they kept their Europa League hopes alive and won the League Cup, Rodgers opted for rotation against Motherwell.
But Hayes failed to impress in just his fourth outing of the season and he was hauled off in the 81st minute of the 1-1 draw without making much of an impact.
This was probably the 31-year-old’s last chance to save his Celtic career, with a January exit looking increasingly likely.
The likes of Ryan Christie and Lewis Morgan have leapfrogged Hayes in the pecking order.
And now the ex-Aberdeen midfielder should seriously consider a move away from Celtic Park in the new year.
The 4-cap Republic of Ireland international’s career is stagnating at Celtic. And after his disappointing showing in midweek, Rodgers is likely to deem him surplus to requirements.
