Jan Vertonghen’s future at Tottenham Hotspur remains in the dark after entering the last 12 months of his contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side – but his latest Twitter activity may suggest he wanted to sign a new deal.
Vertonghen, 32, was left out of the 3-1 win over Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, with some reports suggesting he was not impressed at the decision to omit him from the side. He remained on the bench against Man City and Newcastle.
But he returned to the starting eleven in the north London derby, and helped Spurs keep their first clean sheet of the season on Saturday as Pochettino’s side cruised to a 4-0 win over London rivals Crystal Palace at their new stadium.
Vertonghen is one of a number of players at Spurs in the final months of their contract, with Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen also in the same boat. But Vertonghen may have hinted that he wants to remain, liking a Tweet about a new deal.

TBR’s view – Another year of Vertonghen is a no-brainer for Tottenham
Vertonghen has shown over the past couple of seasons that he is like a fine wine. Despite being 32 years of age, the Belgian defender is still churning out some excellent performances – and it seems as though he is keen to remain in north London.
The Tweet suggests as much, and Tottenham would be foolish not to offer the former Ajax star at least another 12 months.
