Has it already been forgotten how good Liverpool’s Fabinho was for Monaco?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about the speculation linking Fabinho with an early move away from Anfield.

The Brazilian has become the subject of talk this week, with The Daily Mail reporting last week that AC Milan were interested in signing the player in January.

The midfielder has been something of a peripheral figure at the club following his £43.7 million move from AS Monaco.

So far, he’s only made seven appearances for his new club, three of which have been starts in the Premier League.

It’s a number that has concerned quite a few Reds supporters given the outlay to sign him and the reputation with which he arrived.

‘That would be completely crazy’

Klopp addressed the rumours regarding Fabinho in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

He said, as quoted by The Daily Mail: “He’s settled, yes. He played three of the last four, no? He played, he did well. Now the most intense period of the year is coming up.

“Of course he will not leave. That would be completely crazy.”

The German was typically eccentric as he brushed off the speculation.

People have forgotten the Monaco Fabinho

It seems odd that some people are already writing Fabinho off.

He arrived in the summer and has had a job on to break into the starting XI, which has been performing efficiently since the start.

The Reds are just two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and are still unbeaten.

Fabinho has therefore had to make do with more of a substitutes’ role. That said, he’s been impressive when called upon.

Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Radamel Falcao got a lot of the plaudits but Fabinho was absolutely instrumental in the way that attacking team played, providing defensive discipline and versatility.

He hasn’t quite shown it so far in Liverpool colours but as Klopp says, the busy festive period awaits and the 25-year-old’s Anfield career could truly kickstart.
