Has Hugo Lloris prompted Tottenham into reported £30m interest?
Hugo Lloris has perhaps got off lightly after Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Chelsea. But internally, the club may feel enough is enough – and that could be a reason for Spurs reportedly expressing interest in Andre Onana.
Spurs captain Lloris, 32, was left exasperated as Chelsea waltzed past the north Londoners. Chelsea’s second goal saw Kieran Trippier pass the ball past the World Cup-winning goalkeeper into the net.
The calamitous error saw England right-back Trippier look far worse than his teammate between the sticks. But it was Lloris that was at fault.
Lloris’ decision to run towards the ball confused things. If the ex-Lyon goalkeeper stays on his line, Trippier can pass to him and the ball is cleared. But with Lloris running towards Trippier, the defender has little option.

It is not the first mistake of the season from Lloris. Indeed, over the past two campaigns, the experienced goalkeeper has been at fault for the odd howler.
Perhaps his latest error, then, is why Tottenham have reportedly expressed their interest in Ajax’s Onana. According to De Telegraaf, Spurs and West Ham have informed Ajax they are interested. The Dutch club want £30million.
Onana is still only 22 years of age and has been in excellent form this season. He has conceded just 27 goals in 38 games, 22 of which he has kept a clean sheet. In 122 games for Ajax, he has shut the opposition out 55 times.
At £30million, then, the Cameroon international would be an excellent signing. But surely Spurs’ interest has only come about after Lloris’ poor form this season, and even his most recent mistake.
