Has Grady Diangana blown his West Ham chance?

Grady Diangana made a lightening breakthrough into the West Ham first team, impressing in the Carabao Cup and then stepping up into Premier League action following injury to Andriy Yarmolenko.

The 20-year-old impressed Manuel Pellegrini sufficiently to keep his place for five consecutive starts for the Hammers up against Tottenham, Leicester, Burnley, Huddersfield and Manchester City but was mysteriously dropped from the squad to face Newcastle.

Early indications suggest that he is fully fit and could have featured but did not even make the bench for the London side as they traveled to the north-east.

At such a young age and having failed to really kick on once given Premier League starts, questions may be asked on whether he has lost his chance already. First impressions count and Diangana has clearly not justified his place.

With youth on his side, Diangana may get another opportunity at some point in the season as injuries hit, but with so many key figures already sidelined, it is a concerning sign that he has not been included.

Diangana has potential, but he will need to react to this setback and impress Pellegrini to earn a recall into the West Ham side.
