Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen returned to the starting lineup against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League after a short spell on the sidelines.

The Danish playmaker has been nursing an abdominal injury, which has seen him sidelined for the past month.

Spurs have managed well enough without him in the Premier League, but his absence was certainly felt against Barcelona earlier this month.

Against PSV, Eriksen showed glimpses of the magic he can offer.

His assist for Harry Kane’s goal was simply sumptuous.

Eriksen was deployed by Pochettino in a central role against the Dutch outfit and he excelled there, finding space often and looking dangerous between the lines.

The game may have finished 2-2, but Eriksen may have given Mauricio Pochettino something to think about with regards to another member of his squad.

Dele Alli return not guaranteed?

With Eriksen having flourished in a central role, it could be bad news for Dele Alli.

The England international often occupies the space in behind Kane, with Eriksen playing almost as a tucked-in right winger.

Alli has been out with a hamstring injury, but before that he had not been playing particularly well.

Eriksen looked absolutely seamless against PSV, meaning Pochettino might have some trouble reintegrating Alli.

The Argentinian has both Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela in good form and neither really deserve to be dropped.

Eriksen’s return is a major boost, and Tottenham will need him to keep up his good form in the Premier League, a competition he is yet to starting firing in.

Perhaps if he is affored a central role at the expense of Alli, he can become more effective.
