James Maddison is reportedly set to return to team training at Tottenham today.

Christmas has come a few days early for Spurs as their talisman is edging closer and closer to a return to action after a lengthy injury layoff.

Maddison’s return to training isn’t Spurs’ only boost either.

Indeed, speaking on Off The Ball, Martin Lipton did state that Maddison is returning to training on Friday, but he has shared an update on another ‘incredibleTottenham player and their return to fitness.

According to Lipton, Micky Van de Ven has actually been back training for a couple of weeks now, but he’s still not quite there in terms of match fitness.

Van de Ven back training

Lipton shared an update on Maddison and the defender.

“Maddison is not quite yet back, but he’s joining club training today I understand, he’s rejoining the group today. Van de Ven has been training for a couple of weeks but he’s still not quite there. I think Spurs need an early input into the transfer market because they’re going to be suffering because of a lack of bodies,” Lipton said.

Huge

This is exactly what Tottenham fans have been waiting to hear.

Ange Postecoglou’s side just haven’t been the same since Van de Ven went down with an injury, and his return will be a huge boost to the team.

Spurs have fallen to bits in a defensive sense since Van de Ven went down – moreso when Cristian Romero was out of the picture, and reuniting those two at the heart of the defence will certainly help Spurs get back on track.

Let’s not forget, Tottenham were seen as potential title contenders before Van de Ven and Maddison went down injured, and now that these two are seemingly on their way back, Spurs can perhaps start thinking about moving up the table once again.

Let’s hope that Van de Ven is back on the pitch soon.
