Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that 18-year-old defender Remi Savage has agreed professional terms for the first time with the Reds – prompting reaction from Harvey Elliott and plenty of Liverpool supporters.
Savage, 18, broke into the Liverpool Under-23 side this season after becoming a regular with the club’s Under-18 side. Back in 2019, Savage was part of the Under-18 side that won the FA Youth Cup over Chelsea.
A left-footed centre-back, Savage is naturally best in the heart of the defence and that is where he played against both Chelsea and Arsenal in Premier League 2 this season. However, Savage is also more than capable for playing as a left-back.
Liverpool confirmed that Savage had agreed professional terms for the first time at the age of 18 on their official Twitter account, though it is unclear how long a new deal Liverpool’s number 85 has signed.
Liverpool have numerous players ahead of Savage in the pecking order. The centre-back will find Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Sepp van der Berg, Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and even Nathaniel Phillips in his way – the latter has been on loan at Stuttgart.
However, a new deal givesn Savage that breathing space to at least impress in the Under-23 side and catch Jurgen Klopp’s eye. Highly-rated winger Elliott and a number of Liverpool supporters have reacted to Savage signing a contract.
