Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones hailed a “big win” from his side last night against RB Leipzig.

The Reds secured a 2-0 victory against German club RB Leipzig in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.

Jurgen Klopp’s team went into Tuesday’s European showdown in dreadful domestic form, losing their last three consecutive Premier League matches.

But the Merseyside giants hit back against Leipzig, with usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both on the scoresheet.

Jones, 20, retained his spot in the centre of the park and his importance is continuing to grow.

The central midfielder assisted one, as well as being an engine in the middle and looking confident when driving forward with the ball.

Jones posted a message on Instagram after Liverpool’s win, which prompted a response from on-loan Reds youngster Harvey Elliott and pundit Danny Murphy.

TBR’s View:

Liverpool will feel a small amount of the tension has been relieved after a win over Leipzig, as they took control of the tie and are now strong favourites to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League competition.

There were no individual errors defensively, plus going forward their were two extremely clinical finishes from attackers Salah and Mane.

Attention turns now to this weekend’s Merseyside showdown with rivals Everton, which is a fixture that Jones will know more than most about in the Liverpool dressing room.
