Harvey Barnes shows Liverpool just what they're missing with Napoli display
Liverpool enjoyed a good European night themselves this week as they won 3-2 against AC Milan at Anfield, but Leicester City were also back in Europe as well.
The Foxes enjoyed a good performance against Napoli but, ultimately, paid the price in the end when Victor Osimhen showed his prowess with two well-taken goals for the Italian outfit.
But while the disappointment was there for all to see when it came to Leicester at the final whistle, the performance of Harvey Barnes was a huge positive for the Foxes.
And Liverpool, who apparently wanted Barnes in the summer before he signed his new deal, will have looked on with envy at the 23-year-old.
Barnes shows his class
Last season was a superb year for Barnes with Leicester. Goals, assists, and driving runs from midfield meant that England came calling. And despite picking up an injury which saw him miss Euro 2020, Barnes showed last night what he is all about.
As well as his goal and assist last night, Barnes registered a team high three shots on goal and, per Whoscored, was the best performing player on the pitch for Leicester.
For Liverpool, looking at Barnes and how he played in Europe will have left them with a feeling of what might have been. Of course, the Foxes would have demanded big money for the midfielder. But the Reds know they need players in the next few transfer windows, and Barnes would have been ideal.
Barnes faces a big season this time around. After showing his class in the Premier League and getting that England call-up, the chance to prove himself in Europe is crucial.
Of course, European nights mean so much to Liverpool. And while Barnes did sign his new deal in the summer, if he continues to prove himself like he did last night, then the Reds could revisit their interest.
Certainly, Barnes did all he could to show Jurgen Klopp and any onlooking Liverpool scouts he is the real deal.
