Leeds United fell to their worst defeat of the season yesterday as West Brom tore the Whites apart at The Hawthorns. The 4-1 win was as comfortable as it seems and the international break might come at the right time for Leeds.
Leeds simply could not live with the pace and drive of West Brom’s attack in the second-half. Jay Rodriguez, Hal Robson-Kanu and Dwight Gayle all gave Leeds’ defenders nightmares.
As did Harvey Barnes.
The 20-year-old scored in the game, continuing his fine form out on loan from Leicester City.
It takes his tally to six goals and four assists this season with his stunning form helping him into the England under-21 set-up.
It will be an extra blow, considering Leeds United nearly signed him.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post crew last month( 27 mins), Leeds almost signed him.
They claimed that Leeds were close to getting a deal over the line for the player, suggesting he was on his way to Thorp Arch. In fact, according to the Express and Star, he had even picked out a squad number at Leeds. However, he decided he wanted to stay closer to home and headed to West Bromwich Albion instead.
Leeds United saw first-hand yesterday just what they were missing from the dynamic attacker.
He could easily have been a vital cog in the Leeds squad if they had won the transfer battle in the summer. As it is, he looks like being a key man for a promotion rival.
