Harry Winks reportedly ‘big part’ of international plans but must redeem himself after woeful Bayern display

England boss Gareth Southgate is set to make changes for tonight’s qualifier with Bulgaria after the nation’s woeful display against the Czech Republic last week.

One player set to come into the starting XI is Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Harry Winks. As reported by The Mirror, Winks is due to take the place of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who struggled in Prague. He has a cold and Winks will take his place. The same report suggests that England see the Tottenham midfielder as a ‘big part of England’s future’.

And rightly so. Winks is a fantastic transitional midfielder and displays the positive passing mindset England often lack.

However, this game is perhaps one of the Tottenham midfielder’s biggest yet in his relatively blossoming career.

Winks is coming into the game in poor form. In particular, his display against Bayern Munich in the recent 7-2 loss was perhaps his worst ever performance in a Tottenham shirt.

Winks was bullied throughout and went missing, along with most the Tottenham team, when Bayern started to run rampant.

Performances like that do not bode well when England see him as the potential midfield maestro they clearly lack.

Hopefully, Winks can get back on track by shining with England. If he can bring that form back to Tottenham afterwards then his club side’s fans might have something to cheer about.
