Harry Winks has told BBC Sport’s Live coverage of Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers – that he has been working on his shooting in training and it paid off on Monday night.
Winks, 24, finally put Tottenham into the lead against their Championship opposition, having initially gone behind to Fred Onyedinma’s first-half strike. Gareth Bale equalised before the break, with a deft finish.
Spurs were forced to bring the cavalry on – introducing Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. But it was England ace Winks who netted, curling home a left-footed effort from 20 yards.
Two late goals from Ndombele saw the scoreline flatter Spurs. In 161 appearances for Spurs, Winks has only scored four goals but two have come this season – and he claimed after the match that he is working on his shooting.
“I’ve been working on it a lot after training and when the ball came to me I just composed myself and tried to go for pace rather than lashing at it and seeing where it went. I’m happy to score whenever I get the chance,” Winks said.

TBR’s view – Winks showing just how important he is, again
Winks has been in and out of the Spurs side in the Premier League of late, starting three successive matches before being dropped entirely from the squad against Sheffield United on Sunday.
Linked with a £40million move to Manchester City last summer by The Sun, it is clear that even if he does not start every game – keeping Winks at Spurs should be of utmost importance to Jose Mourinho.
If an offer comes in for Winks, Tottenham should reject it out of hand.
