'It's not just me': Redknapp says Harry Kane's told him which England player he absolutely loves playing with

Harry Redknapp has explained how Harry Kane told him he loves playing with Jack Grealish, ahead of England v Iran tomorrow.

The Three Lions open their campaign against a defensive minded Iran side. However, it will not be an easy game, with the Middle Eastern side ranked in the top 20 of the world rankings.

England, of course, have a multitude of attacking options. But according to Harry Redknapp – writing in The Sun – England need to start with Jack Grealish after Kane’s admission on the Man City star.

“It is a chance to really get at them and show what fantastic attacking players we’ve got — which means Grealish MUST start for me. It is not just me who is a big fan of the Manchester City star either,” Redknapp said.

“I watched him against Chelsea in the League Cup this month and just wanted him to get the ball. And I remember speaking to Harry Kane and him telling me he loves to play with Jack because of those little balls he plays into the pockets around the box.”

Kane is going to be the first name on the team sheet. Behind him, though, a number of attacking players such as Grealish, Saka, Sterling and Foden are all vying to start.

Should Grealish get the nod, it could be bad news for Arsenal’s Saka. He is another tipped to start, but with the likes of Mason Mount in there as well, Saka could be benched if Grealish plays.

TBR’s View: Grealish can help Kane flourish

Redknapp is right in that Grealish can help against Iran. We need Kane occupying defenders so having players like Grealish in and around him and the box could be vital.

In later games against better sides who attack more, the counter attack might be more productive. That’s where we could see the pace of Sterling or Rashford used with Kane.

But, if Kane is admitting to Redknapp that he loves playing with Grealish, then it’s something England have to consider.

Certainly, it’s a partnership that can produce the goods against a defensive side like Iran.
