Harry Redknapp says Chelsea should’ve signed £20m West Ham player years ago

Chelsea haven’t been brilliant in the transfer market over the past few years.

The Todd Boehly era has been poor to say the least, but even before that the Blues were making plenty of transfer blunders.

The likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech all proved to be poor signings under Roman Abramovich, and Chelsea often went for the biggest names rather than the best talents.

Speaking on the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast, Harry Redknapp has been discussing some of the talents in the Championship over the years, and he suggests that Jarrod Bowen is a player that Chelsea should’ve signed years ago when he was at Hull City.

Chelsea should’ve signed Bowen

Redknapp shared his verdict on the £20m winger.

“There are players down there. Look at Bowen, I remember watching Bowen play for Hull against Chelsea one night on TV in a cup game, and he ran Chelsea ragged, but Chelsea never came in for him. A couple of months later West Ham take a gamble and look at how good he’s been,” Redknapp said.

What a signing

Redknapp highlights Chelsea as a team that should’ve gone after Bowen when he was at Hull, but pretty much every team in the Premier League should be regretting missing out on this one.

The winger is a truly incredible player, and he’d make almost any team in the division stronger.

Bowen has proven to be one of the best signings in the league in recent years when West Ham picked him up from Hull, and it’s fair to say that the Hammers pulled off quite the transfer coup here.

Unfortunately for Chelsea and the rest of the big six, Bowen would cost an absolute fortune if he were to move now, and it’s fair to say that most of these top clubs missed the boat on this one.
