Harry Redknapp has told Sky Sports that he does not believe Arsenal have a squad capable of finishing in the top-four places in the Premier League this season, but reckons Tottenham Hotspur will still finish in third.
Arsenal suffered a dismal loss to Sheffield United last time out in the Premier League and only just scraped past Vitoria on Thursday. Meanwhile, Tottenham have overcome their poor form with a 5-0 win over Red Star in the Champions League.
Despite Tottenham’s shocking start to the campaign, they still sit in seventh place even though they have only picked up three wins from nine outings. Arsenal, meanwhile, are in fifth – three points ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Former Tottenham manager Redknapp gave his verdict on who would finish behind Liverpool and Manchester in the top four, and he thinks Arsenal will struggle to reach the Champions League qualifying spots – but Tottenham will nab third.
“Then you have got Arsenal, I don’t know where they are going at the moment. For me, they are nowhere near capable of finishing in the top three, unless the others all fall over,” Redknapp said. “I think Tottenham will finish third this season.”
TBR’s view – Can Tottenham finish in third place, above Arsenal?
For the first time on Thursday, it seemed as though Pochettino ousted the players that want to leave. Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen all failed to feature – and Spurs eased to a 5-0 win.
If Pochettino continues to leave out those players, perhaps they could finally go on to reinvigorate the side and finish third. But Nicolas Pepe scored a brace on Thursday and his form could be key in Arsenal’s top-four slots.
