Harry Redknapp has told TalkSPORT that Tottenham should be winning a trophy under Antonio Conte this year, despite his defensive style.
Conte’s style of player has come under fire this season. However, going into the clash with Liverpool this weekend, Spurs sit third and in the next round of the Champions League. The Italian coach will argue he can’t be doing much more.
Of course, managers are judged on results and trophies. And speaking to TalkSPORT, Redknapp warned Tottenham fans not to expect any new style of football, but that a trophy could still come.
“At the moment it’s hard to think that (they can win a trophy). But I do think they can. I’ll be disappointed if Tottenham don’t win something this year, whether it be the League Cup the FA Cup or whatever. They’ve got a strong squad there and I would expect them to have some silverware there under Conte,” Redknapp told TalkSPORT.

“But I don’t think he’s going to change the way he plays and the way he is. He’s going to keep grinding out results and while they’re winning who can argue really? Even though it’s not getting you off the edge of your seat, they’re still producing results.”
Spurs will have Dejan Kulusevski back in the squad for Liverpool. Conte confirmed the Swede had trained today, albeit Richarlison and Romero are still missing.
TBR’s View: Tottenham can win a trophy under Conte
Even though all the focus nowadays is on getting into the top four, sometimes winning a trophy is what fans live for.
Tottenham haven’t enjoyed that success in so long that if Conte can deliver that silverware, he’ll be lauded.
Redknapp is bang on here in his assessment. The style of football won’t change. But that doesn’t mean success can’t be achieved either.
