Harry Redknapp has told TalkSPORT that Son Heung-min’s actions against Chelsea were “petulant” and he deserved to be sent off against Frank Lampard’s side, as Spurs suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Jose Mourinho’s old team.
Son, 27, was shown a straight red card by referee Anthony Taylor after VAR confirmed Son had kicked out at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger. Taylor had previously given a penalty to Chelsea, after his previous decision had been overturned by VAR.
The South Korea captain certainly has now received more Premier League red cards than any other player since the start of the 2018-29 season – though it must be remembered that his sending off against Everton earlier this season was rescinded.
Former Tottenham manager Redknapp believes Son was “petulant” to do what he did, and does not believe Tottenham’s appeal to have the three-match ban overturned will prove successful – which will prove frustrating for Spurs fans.
“No, I can’t see them overturning it,” Redknapp said. “He looks a great lad, Son, but certainly he was petulant. He kicked out, I can’t see any way they’ll overturn it. I think he’s got to move on and take the punishment now.”

TBR’s view – Son does have a nasty streak, but it makes him a top player
Some players need to add a bit of nastiness to their game to become a top player, rather than a second-rate forward getting by with the odd goal here and there. Son has performed for years at Spurs, and that nastiness has helped.
Even in a struggling Tottenham side this season, £18million (Telegraph) Son has scored 10 and created nine in 23 games from out wide. That is stunning form in a side that sit outside of the top six. Son needs to be nasty now and then.
