Harry Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that it is down to three Tottenham Hotspur players if Mauricio Pochettino’s side are to shock Manchester City in the Champions League.
Spurs take on Pep Guardiola’s men on Tuesday night in the first leg. It is the north Londoners’ second appearance at the new stadium, after beating Crystal Palace 2-0 last Wednesday.
Goals from Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen saw Spurs finally end a run of five matches without a win. They were comfortable throughout and were certainly given a boost by the Spurs fans.
Former Spurs boss Redknapp believes Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min have the quality to help Spurs beat Manchester City over the two legs – and reckons the stadium will be a “massive boost”.
“What an atmosphere there will be at Tottenham’s ground on Tuesday night, and I’m not writing Spurs off over two legs,” Redknapp said. “I think they’ve got a chance against Manchester City.
“With Harry Kane and Dele Alli back to full fitness. They’re strong everywhere and they can score goals. Son Heung-min is a fantastic player. They’ve done well in Europe to get out of a tough group when they were dead and buried.
“City are unbelievable but there’s no reason why Spurs can’t give them a game. The new stadium will be a massive boost. It will be like some of the famous European nights.”
Spurs are going into the match with an unpredictability about them. Having played away from home for two years, they have still reached the last four and impressed in the Champions League.
Now, they have their home back and it will be interesting to see if there is an improvement. What is crucial, is that they got their first win against Palace – rather than a run of games without a win at the new ground.
Spurs must beat City tonight, if they stand any chance of qualifying. They need a win to hold onto at the Etihad. If they go chasing the game in Eastlands, they will be beaten comfortably.
